Laid-back Cherai is known for the beach of the same name, a sandy stretch that’s popular for swimming and dolphin watching. Skirting the coastline, Beach Road is lined with simple eateries, casual hotels, and homestays, while traditional Chinese fishing nets dot nearby Cherai Lagoon. Hindu temples include Shree Gowreeswara, famed for its winter elephant parade, and Azheekal Shree Varaha, home to a rare ratha chariot.
